A busy night at the Thistle & Rose Remembrance Night Meeting.

With over 26 visitors and and 52 dining it was an excellent evening at Thistle & Rose on Wednesday , 28th November.

Following the raising of Bro William Scales,  a successful ballot was then held for an amazing 5 joining members to the Lodge.

It was then on to the W.M. to present the Metropolitan Grand Lodge Certificate of Achievement and the Almoner Lapel Pin to the Thistle & Rose Lodge Almoner , W Bro. Paul Tew.

Going in to the Festive Board for dinner, the tables were decorated with suitable napkins and flags in commemoration of the recent Remembrance day.

After the meal and toasts , the brothers listened to W Bro Ronnie Stone recite brilliantly the poem ‘In Flanders field’ , explaining who had written it and when.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

by Major John McCrae.

There then followed a rousing rendition of “Pack up your troubles”  before the close of the evening.
