On Tuesday 17th June, the AGM for the Corby Masonic Complex took place at 7 p.m. prompt.
With over 35 members present , the Interim Chairman, WBro Steve Burton welcomed everyone to the meeting and proceeded to confirm the order of business for the evening.
First up was the treasurer WBRo Jeff Freeman , who described this year as one of big changes for the Complex both in the Building, but also with the financial situation.
Project 2025 led by WBro Steve Burton was delivered both on time and to budget and thanked all the volunteers for their time in helping Steve achieve the aims. Although finances are looking healthy, it wasn’t time to rush the process. However he was able to announce that the capitation costs would remain the same for this year, but the prices for the Festive Board for Corby Lodges would be reduced to £16 for 2 courses and £18 for 3 courses. He also announce the extra charge for cheese and biscuits would no longer be applied. The finances were then approved by the members present.
The interim Chairman then gave his report on the year and once again thanked the volunteers for their work. He also announced a change to the makeup of the Complex Board. As we are now landlords it was felt that instead of the title of Secretary, it would now need to be a Facilities Manager role. To enable this a small number of the current Secretary processes would be moving to the Chairman.
He also read out a letter from WBro Jim Spence , thanking the brethren for their support and asked for their understanding as to why he had to step down last November which was to look after his recently departed wife.
A vote was then taken, approved unanimously that WBro Steve Burton would take the role of Chairman , and WBro Jeff Conisbee would take the role of Facilities Manager.
The Chairman thanked the brethren and announced that the ante-room would be able to function as a second rehearsal room so 2 lodges could rehearse on the same night, with the emergency exit acting as the entrance/exit for the temple.
An Open day will take place on September 6th for those interested in seeing the changes achieved with Project 2025.
After a number of questions and requests for some improvements to be made, the Meeting was closed.
Following the Meeting, Katie Mason was invited to address the members. She then informed them that the PGM had approved a request to start a Corby branch of LAMS, (or Lady Associate Members), are groups associated with Freemasonry, specifically for women who are connected to Freemasons, e.g. Wife/Partner/Mother/Daughter/In-laws etc.
Further details will be sent out to all Corby Masons in the next few weeks with further explanation.
