The oldest Lodge in Corby celebrated it’s own Burns Night on Wednesday 25th February.
With a bumper crowd watching an excellent ritual led by the WM Bro Jeff Connisbee when Bro Darren Millard, watched on by the official guest VW Bro CA Bennett PGSwdB, Deputy Provincial Grand Master Accompanied by WBro JT Blason Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies, was passed to the degree of Fellowcraft.
It was then onto the Burns Festive Board for the 57 brethren that had attended for the evening . As usual there were quite a few sporting their own family kilts.
This Lodge always try and keep close to an original supper as possible, and so it was that WBro Scott Morton playing the bagpipes marched into the Festive Board followed in Hot pursuit by WBro Jim Dickson with the Haggis on a silver tray. After passing around the brethren, it was time to address the Haggis. This was expertly done by Scott, caressing it at one point with some of the whisky he happened to have close……..
Having made the initial cut , it was soon time to march it back to kitchen to be served to all along with neeps and tatties. This was followed by the main course of a Steak Pie with the trimmings.
Along with the usual toasts and speeches , there was time for WBro Ian Stark and WBro Scott along with the brethren to sing / recite a few of the original Burns songs and poems.
Once again, Thistle & Rose had a great Burns supper.
