Thistle & Rose celebrate 75 years.

by WBro Scott Morton

Corby Masonic Centre became a beacon of fraternal celebration on Saturday, June 24th, as brethren gathered to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the consecration of the Thistle & Rose Lodge No 6644. This momentous occasion brought together Freemasons, their families, and friends to honour a significant milestone in the lodge’s rich history.

Under the distinguished leadership of Bro. Jeff Consibee as Worshipful Master, alongside Bro. Carl Braybrook as Junior Warden and WBro. Andy William as Senior Warden, the lodge members convened for a special meeting that embraced the essence of tradition and camaraderie. The atmosphere was charged with reverence and respect as the brethren paid homage to their predecessors who had held the same positions during the consecration 75 years prior.

The meeting commenced with the opening of the lodge, followed by a roll call in which each current officer announced the name of the Brother who held their respective position during the historic consecration. This solemn act not only honoured the past but also emphasized the continuity of the lodge’s legacy and the enduring bonds between brethren across generations.

A moment of profound emotion swept through the hall as the lodge stood in unison, paying tribute to Departed Merit as WBro Malcolm Atkins, the Lodge Chaplain, recited the 3rd Degree prayer: Ecclesiastes Chapter 12 verses 1 to 7 after which,  Elgar’s poignant masterpiece, Nimrod, resonated from the organ, filling the room with its stirring melody. This heartfelt interlude served as a reminder of the timeless values cherished by Freemasons and the eternal bond that unites them.

With the meeting adjourned, the brethren and their guests proceeded to the White Table Festive board, where the celebration continued in an atmosphere of conviviality and camaraderie. Amidst the warm company of loved ones, the Corby Senior Group Officer, WBro. Jimmy Spence, took the stage and delivered an engaging and enlightening oration. He delved into the illustrious history of Thistle & Rose Lodge, the Corby Masonic Complex, and the broader context of Freemasonry in Corby, captivating the audience with tales of tradition and heritage.

As the afternoon unfolded, laughter, mirth, and a sense of unity prevailed among the brethren and their guests. The festive board provided an opportunity for cherished bonds to be strengthened and for new connections to be forged, showcasing the true spirit of Masonic fraternity.

The 75th Anniversary celebration of the consecration of Thistle & Rose Lodge stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Freemasonry in Corby and its profound impact on the lives of its members. The event served not only to honour the past but also to inspire the present generation of brethren to carry forward the principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth.

As the brethren departed from the Corby Masonic Centre that evening, their hearts were filled with a sense of pride and gratitude for the remarkable history they were a part of and the promising future that lay ahead. The bonds formed and memories created at this special gathering will continue to resonate within the hearts of those who attended, forever linking them to the vibrant tapestry of Thistle & Rose Lodge.

With every passing year, Thistle & Rose Lodge and its members will continue to flourish, carrying the torch of Freemasonry with honour, integrity, and unwavering dedication to the principles that have guided them for 75 remarkable years.
