Freemasonry in Colorado, USA

On a vacation to see friends in Colorado Springs, I had a fantastic opportunity to not only look around the Grand Lodge of Colorado Museum but also be invited along to a meeting.

The Grand Lodge of Colorado is based in Colorado Springs, with a wonderful view of the Colorado Rockies just outside the entrance.

I was greeted as an old friend by WBro Scot Autrey who is the Grand Secretary. He showed myself and my non-masonic friend around the Museum which had some amazing exhibits from the Original Collars used at the Consecration of the Colorado G.L. in 1861, along with items previously belonging to Presidents of the USA. There was also exhibits collected and donated by Colorado Freemasons to the Museum.

Having provided an introduction letter from our own Provincial secretary , WBro William Diggins to WBro Scot, I was invited to attend his own Lodge meeting , Tejon Lodge no. 104 which had a meeting whilst I was still in the country. It did not prove to be an issue not to have brought my own Collar and Apron with me, as can be seen, they are provided at the meeting.

A number of years ago they relocated to their current site however their original Temple (which had been built in the Egyptian style) was so beautiful that they actually took everything including parts of the wall from the original building , piece by piece and rebuilt it within the new temple 50 miles away.

As is normal practice at their meetings ,there is no Formal Festive Board at regular meetings, but the brothers sit down prior and enjoy some food together in another room.

The actual meeting was extremely enjoyable , with just a few differences, however I was made to feel very welcome by every single brother that was present. Following the meeting we again met in the other room to enjoy a couple of drinks together.

Incidentally, like Thistle & Rose and Ferraria this year, Tejon Lodge are also celebrating their own Birthday this year, but it will be 125 years since they were consecrated!

The next time I visit Colorado Springs , I will definitely make another visit and I would like to recommend that wherever you visit in the world either on Holiday or Business, why not take the opportunity to look for a meeting and enjoy Freemasonry in another country.
